ZPIC Zone 7 Contract Awarded
Furthering the agency's goal of consolidating the work of Medicare's Program Safeguard Contractors (PSCs) and Medicare Drug Integrity Contractors (MEDICs) with new Zone Program Integrity Contractors (ZPICs), on October 1, 2008, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) awarded one of the first two ZPIC contracts to be awarded, Zone 7, to Safeguard Services, LLC.
Zone 7 was awarded a single Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity contract. Zone 7 , Task Order 1, as the new contractor is responsible for ensuring the integrity of all Medicare claims under Parts A and B (hospital, skilled nursing, home health, provider and durable medical equipment), and Medi-Medi , Task Order 2 (Medicare-Medicaid) data matches. Zone 7 encompasses Florida, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. Task Order 1 and 2 is for the base year plus four option years. Zone 7 is headquartered in Miramar, Florida, with an office in Jacksonville, Florida as well as in San Juan , Puerto Rico. Since Zone 7 became operational, several new task orders were awarded. Task Order 3 was awarded for two years (ending in December 2010) dealing with Home Health Services for diabetic beneficiaries in the south Florida area; Task Order 4A which consists of a Medicare hot-line as well as a Quick Action Team; Task Order 4B which is a MAC enrollment special Study and a DME Stop Gap Special Project.
Working together to promote the integrity of the Medicare and Medicaid programs, Safeguard Services, LLC will continue to maintain its current strong working relationships with CMS, the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General, United States Attorney's Offices (USAO), Office of Attorney General (OAG), Office of Investigations (DHHS/OIG/OI), the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA), the Affiliated Contractors (ACs), the Medicare Drug Integrity Contractors (MEDICs), and other PSCs.
The Zone 7 ZPIC is fully operational as of February 1, 2009.
